I personally got this for the bass oboe, but I do use everything in the pack. I do love the European scrapes for the reeds (I believe it is a German Scrape/Cut specifically). However, regardless of the dynamic levels and/or articulations, the very first note directly after a rest is always "blasting". There are specific patterns I tend to do with oboes for an ethereal or calm piece or section to give off a "floating" feel or enforce a specific passage without doing too much, I'll replicate the part with oboe with eighth notes and rests. With the way the sounds start directly after a rest, the oboe would over-enforce or be too heavy on those sections. The bassoon is also too loud and easily overpowers everything.

Expressive solo woodwinds
These solo instruments complement the ensembles in the Berlin Woodwinds main collection. The up-front, intimate sound of the solo instruments sits well with the more spacious ensemble sound of the main room, while at the same time giving the soloists the spotlight they deserve. We’ve taken great care to make sure that playability, techniques, and levels are consistent across all Berlin Woodwinds—in fact, across the whole Berlin Series. Sonically, these instruments are designed to be flexible: They can take center stage, or sound close and intimate, depending on what you need. They also form the perfect complement to the ensembles in our Berlin Woodwinds main library.
