“Bedroom Pop Sound Design Explained®” explores modern bedroom pop sound creation using Serum. In this course, Thomas Cochran demonstrates how to design inspiring, ear-catching sounds suited for home studio productions. While Serum is used throughout, the techniques shown can be applied to most wavetable hardware or synth plugins. The course begins with creating various key sounds, starting with a lo-fi patch and enhancing it with effects to add texture and character. You’ll then explore an indie pitch-bending patch with portamento, followed by bright textured sounds inspired by classic digital synth tones. Next, Thomas covers staple bedroom pop elements such as lead and plucked sounds. You’ll see how flange filters can shape a textured flute lead and even be applied to vocal samples for hybrid tones. Additional lessons include designing a plucked patch inspired by classic analog-style synths, crafting a chorus-style guitar patch, and building expressive pads. The training also explores indie and funky synth basses using filter modulation and compression techniques, along with expressive pad design modeled after Rhodes-style and Juno-type textures. By the end, you’ll have a practical set of sound design techniques for creating modern bedroom pop sounds directly in your DAW.
