“Mastering in the Box Explained®” introduces the fundamentals of mastering inside your computer using standard plug-ins. In this series, Michael Costa walks through the core concepts behind mastering and demonstrates how to apply common processing tools to improve your final mixes. The course begins with an overview of mixing and mastering in the box, followed by an explanation of what mastering involves and why it matters. You’ll then explore the primary plug-ins used in mastering and how to apply them appropriately. Additional lessons address common mix issues such as harshness, excessive low-end thump, and overly loud hi-hats, along with practical correction strategies. The training also covers Mid/Side processing techniques and further troubleshooting approaches for problematic mixes. The series concludes with creating stems for mastering and setting up and executing a compilation mastering session. By the end, you’ll understand the essential tools and workflows involved in computer-based mastering.
