ARNOISE
A noise reduction plugin that learns the spectral profile of steady background noise and removes it while preserving the signal you want to hear.
NOISE REDUCTION
ARNOISE removes steady background noise such as tape hiss, preamp hiss, air conditioning, computer fans, and room noise while preserving the material you want to hear. The process begins with a learned noise profile. Play a second of isolated background noise and press LEARN, and ARNOISE measures its level across the frequency spectrum and stores its shape. It then compares incoming audio against that profile band by band, removing only as much as the learned profile identifies as noise. FLOOR and SMOOTHING help keep the processed background natural rather than replacing noise with an artificial ringing texture. At the default setting, steady noise was reduced by 9.2 dB, while a stronger setting achieved 12.8 dB of reduction. In the same test, a tone sitting 20 dB above the noise was reduced by only 0.2 dB. The learned profile is stored with the session and can adapt across sample rates. ARNOISE reports 2048 samples of latency for automatic DAW compensation. Without a learned profile, its analysis and resynthesis path produces a residual 140 dB below the original signal.
