A Granular FX Engine for Movement and Texture
Aethon is a granular transformation effect designed to reshape your sound into moving, evolving textures. It captures incoming audio into a buffer, breaks it into small grains, and then rearranges and processes those grains in real time. Depending on the settings, the result can range from subtle movement and spaciousness to pulsing textures, reversed fragments, shimmering ambience, and heavily transformed sound design. The Grain Engine gives you direct control over the character of the effect. Size changes the length of each grain, while Rate and Density determine how frequently grains are generated and how closely they overlap. Spread controls how tightly or loosely the grains are distributed, and Width expands the effect across the stereo field. Drift introduces variation between grains, helping create motion that can feel organic and unpredictable rather than repetitive. Aethon can behave very differently depending on how it is set. Longer grains and gentler settings can create reverb- or delay-like movement, while shorter grains can produce tremolo-like pulses, rhythmic textures, and more abstract effects. Grains can also be reversed, allowing pieces of the original signal to move backward through the texture. Freeze captures the current buffer and holds it in place, making it possible to turn a brief moment of audio into a sustained atmosphere or evolving sound bed. Tone controls, diffusion, stereo shaping, and the Transform control provide additional ways to push the result from subtle enhancement into completely new territory. Aethon works especially well on guitars, synths, vocals, keys, percussion, and melodic material, but it can be used anywhere you want to introduce motion, space, texture, or unexpected variation. It is designed less like a traditional delay or reverb and more like an instrument for transforming the sound that is already there.
