“MIDI Explained®” delivers a comprehensive introduction to how MIDI works, giving you the knowledge needed to connect, program, and control MIDI-capable software and hardware. In this series, Eli Krantzberg breaks down MIDI concepts step by step, from foundational principles to more advanced system features. The course begins with an overview of MIDI and the different types of data contained in MIDI messages. You’ll explore core message types including Note Messages and MIDI Note Numbers, followed by key performance and control data such as Aftertouch, Pitch Bend, Program Change, Bank Select, Continuous Controller, and Channel Mode messages. From there, the training covers Multitimbral Mode for layering sounds across channels, along with System Common, System Real Time, MIDI Time Code, and System Exclusive messages.
