RipplerX is a physically modeled synthesizer built around modal synthesis and acoustic resonator modeling. Inspired by instruments such as Chromaphone and Collision, it generates sound through simulated resonant objects rather than traditional oscillators or sampled audio. The synth features dual resonators that can operate in serial or parallel configurations, allowing complex interactions between different acoustic models. A collection of resonator types—including strings, beams, membranes, plates, drums, tubes, and marimba-inspired structures—provides a wide range of tonal possibilities, from natural percussion and plucked sounds to abstract resonant textures. Additional controls for material properties, inharmonicity, tone, resonance relationships, and excitation sources help shape the behavior of the modeled objects. With support for up to 64 partials per resonator, RipplerX offers detailed and expressive physical modeling suitable for sound design, electronic music production, and experimental synthesis.
