Cantai Reviews
Goes crazy with many syllables and doesn't sing at all, sounds overall pretty trash and it's AI so why am I even angry.
For some reason it does not work with musescore studio 4.7.5
Genuinely a very good product, happy to support! I would love to see the ability to solo out voices in the choir sounds using staff texts like "solo" and "tutti." Other than that small suggestion, this is great!!!
Dear developpers, what you have acheived is phenomenal, thank you! There are however some bugs, mistakes wich bother very much when you make a big score with vocalists. I’ve just made a 1st scene of an oratorio in latin for double choir, I’m sure that if I send it to you it would be very helpful to understand what things need to be resolved in first place (because there a real mistakes when you have 10 staves for choir, the sound desapears, some parts suddenly begin to sing in english instead of latin. dinamics don’t work ect ect) . Thank you very much again! It’s obviously the only library that can be used here in Musescore for now.
I tried this with MuseSounds Pro to test if I like it, and it's actually not that bad. That said, there's still some glaring issues. The first is the dynamics. The voices overpower EVERYTHING. Even when I had a full orchestra playing at fff, the vocals here would over power them. In some cases, the orchestra would overpower the voices. But still. Also, the voices themselves have wonky dynamics. Next, is the vocals themselves. Sometimes, they would incorrectly pronounce (or sing in this case) lyrics. I'm sure they're built for English and Latin lyrics because I tried them with a song I composed that uses Latin lyrics, and they turned out fine. But I'm sure it's for these lyrics only b/c I tried it with Indonesian lyrics and it didn't work.
Yet another issue with this freaking plugin I paid $149 for! Using the latest version of MuseScore on the latest Mac OS, I cannot render audio. It says it is processing online sounds and it runs for 20–30 minutes on a 3 1/2 minute SATB a cappella song, then tells me at the bottom that some online sounds aren’t ready yet. All I get on playback is 3 parts playing piano and most of the alto line being sung. Awful!
Partner Response: Hi, sorry you're running into this. A stuck 'processing online sounds' state usually means we need two files to see what's happening: the MuseHub log (Mac: Help > Show Logs; Windows: Settings > Technical > View application logs) and a MuseScore Studio diagnostic file (Help menu > Diagnostics > Save Diagnostic Files). Please submit both through Contact Support at support.musehub.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new and the team can dig into your specific case.
Sounds are improving however render times have increased which is very annoying to deal with. Also, there are still problems with vocals like Karolyn missing notes or going sharp. Also the voices will randomly go loud at certain times which is also pretty annoying. Please fix these issues! Other than these major issues it is quite solid.
This is just amazing, how Good voices are, but sometimes, it does not detecte the Latin and it pronounces it as English. It needs to be able to read perfectly every single language it says it knows, because is so weird when my characters are speacking Latin they feel british and is so akward and weird.
I tried an earlier version of Cantai for MuseScore and found it a great help in making choir practice tracks. The updated voices in 3.0.1 sound even more lifelike, and I was excited to try them out. For some reason, the 5-10 minute rendering time per song from before has now jumped to several hours per voice part. After trying several suggested fixes, it's still crazy slow. An app with great potential, but not worth the stress and frustration it's causing.
This is a gamechanger. I wish I could get instrumental stuff sounding as good as my vocals now.
I started to write this review while on my 15th minute of waiting for a 3-bar passage to render with four voices, again. This has been consistently happening since 3.0.1, despite numerous reinstallations. Previously this was a great tool for hearing ideas sung, and render times were on the order of seconds, even on my M2 Mac. Now, even on my primary Windows computer with great specs, I have to wait multiple minutes to hear even short passages. A GPU acceleration patch for S/D has been released that ostensibly improves speeds by 2.5x. Okay, but Ottetto voices were released months ago on S/D and they are just now coming to MS. Am I going to have to wait months to get a patch that makes the application I pay for actually usable?
Cantai is a scam; it doesn’t work. We pay €10 a month for a service that doesn’t work. It’s a scam. What is the solution???

Trying to start Cantai every Monday is frustrating because it NEVER fails to say ...Online sounds....check connections and make sure Musehub is running,...when there's nothing wrong with my internet connections & Musehub is already running,...I understand that the used up data of 180 minutes is reset on every Monday but why is it impossible to start using it again the following Monday without the same problem every week ? another issue is that the some times vocals can fade,...and doesn't sound clear.

It is absurd how long it takes to render even a short amount of music. Also: It constantly stops during rendering saying “check your connection” (internet connection never in doubt, though…) and you have to manually restart rendering. Usability 0/10

"Please Check your connection" Be prepared to see this 90% of the time and be frustrated.

The sound can be excellent. Not perfect, not complete, but really remarkable. Love it when it works. Too bad that I do not have local generation with my brand-new AMD PC and have to rely on often slow-ish, sometimes non-functional online generation, with a quota hanging over my head like a sword of Damocles. Generally speaking, the MuseHub/MuseScore combination is not very stable when it comes to MuseSounds, I "lose" them temporarly pretty often, installing them was a matter of persistance.
Love this software. As a church composer for my Samoan and English Methodist Parish, this software is helping me hear my hymns in English before I teach it. However, when it comes to the Samoan language, there is none. Is the Samoan language coming soon? Will really appreciate it if the Samoan language comes sooner.
Version 3.1 is terrible. Unusable. A huge step backwards. Why no quality control before foisting this on us? But once again MuseScore users get the short straw with commercial decisions. What is the justification for lack of local rendering with the monthly subscription? (And for not making that perfectly clear on the MuseHub page? And for there being no way of checking how much time you have used up out of your weekly allowance? And for neither MuseScore nor Cantai support having a clue about this, each saying to check with the other party?)
There are too many times when the user is expected to fix a loss of service (voices not working) on Cantai's end.
tenor is a lie choir looks like there is only 3 people , improvement: for choir , please combine 25 to 50 member thanks
About a couple of years ago, this program started being developed. It kept announcing that it was a program for opera singing. This year, when I finally decided to try it, it was still far from operatic in any way. I hated it, because even the choir voices were juvenile and amateurish and do portamenti. The pronunciation of Latin, which is evidently done by singers from the USA, is horrible. This is a new program. It's trying to sing correctly, in different languages, including all dynamics, articulations, etc. That is a massive achievement. They keep on working with it. Above all, they deserve to be given a chance, because the developers are listening to the community and constantly trying to improve.
I would give this program currently 2.5 stars. I am a choir director working with a small church choir. This sound allows me to make practice tracks for my choir which is a huge plus. However - sustained notes are consistantly off pitch. And often times the voices add random ordaments in the playback. I have the tenor line decentding chromatically (Think barbershop style). It is supposed to be from C-B-Bb, and it goes C-B-(C-B)-Bb, think the parenthisees as two grace notes. I was also kind of disappointed that the choir sounds are very ‘Pop’ instead of classical. Don’t get me wrong - I could use the pop sound for certain songs, but in most of my compositions I would prefer to have a more classical choir.
You cannot open the plugin to change language settings in Musescore, so everything is pronounced in English. I contacted technical support and received an automated response; no human interaction was possible.
Partner Response: Hi there, please see here for details on how to customize the language settings: https://handbook.musescore.org/customization/language You can also find more details on how to use Cantai within MuseScore Studio here: https://cantai.app/faq If you continue to have issues, please feel free to reach back out to customer support and we'll do our best to assist.
