Muse Percussion Reviews
Just installed the new update and for whatever reason the drum kit no longer plays in sync with everything else. And ya wanna know the worst part about it? The description for the update says "Improved GM Drum Kit timing"
Unfortunately this new update has rendered the drum kit unusable. Following this most recent update the kick on the drum kit is all kinds of messed up. It plays completely out of sync with the rest of the kit. A lot of what i write involves a drum kit and a kick drum so i would love to see this fixed sometime soon.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BRING BACK THE OLD BASS DRUM SO THAT I WILL SIT AND NOD AT MY COMPOSITION'S SUM THE NEW BASS DRUM SOUNDS SO DUMB LIKE A TOAD BEING THROWN WITH STRENGH AND BRAWN INTO A CHEAP SNARE THAT HAS NO FLAIR PLAYING A FAST TREMOLO IS A METHOD OF TORTURE MAKES ME WANT TO GO AND BREAK MY FURNITURE A PROPER DRUM SHOULD SOUND AS FRIGHTENING THUNDER AND A GOOD TREMOLO FILLS YOU WITH DANGER
I love this, but it's really lacking in one way. WE NEED BOWED VIBES!!!! omigosh they're soo pretty and we would love to have a bowed vibraphone sound pls and thx :3
I love this! it is very good, but it is missing some instruments, like wind machine, thundersheet, hammer, and other uncommon instruments that could still be used in musescore. Besides that! it is VERY good!
Very nice samples of many percussions FOR FREE. I wanted to ask for every cymbal-related instrument (especially the Suspended Cymbal) if you could add Something to really cut the sound at the end of the note. When you use a tremolo of suspended cymbal, it stays resonating. And if you use the "damp on release" or the "secco", it doesn't play crescendos, but it doesn't have resonance. So I'm asking for a feature to totally stop the sound of every instrument from the cymbal family at a specific moment in the score. (Sorry if I missed an actual way to do it) Thank you for always adding new quality instruments sounds !
I love that MuseGroup updates all the libraries on the regular. Every other company just does 1 or 2 patches then calls it quits. Great tool to make use of!
Wow ! It's just now that i'm thinking of reviewing this. It's A-WE-SOME !!!!! Perfect plugin for percussions
and free
THE BEST IN THE WORLD
Obviously this is from when I had them, but they sound great! all I could ask for, though, is that there should be bowed vibraphone sounds. I don't have them anymore since they just won't download at all.
It really rocks, let's add Handbells next
there is a bass drum and gong ideat where you have to were we can have whale noises comig from the drum themselfs and itll be an fantasic thing to have but over all this the best percussion imput
The sound is good, but no matter what I do, the volume won’t get louder. I had the volume all the way up for the bass drum in the mixer, and the dynamics were fff. Didn’t make it any louder. All the instruments are stupidly quiet.
Partner Response: Hi there, Thanks for the feedback and we're sorry to hear you are experiencing issues! Please submit a ticket to our help desk here: https://support.musehub.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new
It works well however I can't seem to find the sound for wind chimes.
The sounds are good but you need to be a master level hacker to figure out how to enable this, please make it intuitive
You'd think that, percussion being more noise than music, a machine like a computer would handle them well… But no. You'll need to constantly adjust volume in the mixer and use FXs to get close to the sound of an orchestra. That said, I'm not gonna sack something that is free...
This product is good. The only issue I can find is the fact that the timpani in MS Basic is much louder, and a similar amplitude would be nice here (I can't even hear in mf, only f or ff works).
The quality of support is negligible. There are a lot of bugs in this sound library. Accents are not played with low dynamics, drums and timpani sound too loud with FF dynamics, and with P dynamic they are almost not heard (which can be said about almost all percussion). The Big Kit and GM Drum Kit are lagging behind the metronome click and there are many more other issues. The support team is not responding to my bug reports, even though these bugs have been going on for over two years!!
The sound quality is only decent, but that's good enough. It includes a very large variety which makes it very worth it. However, the timpani can only be explained as horrible. Most of the gongs/cymbals also have weird bugs that sometimes they play quite, or sometimes they play louder regardless of the dynamics.
The sounds are really great, especially considering that they're free, but I feel some of the instruments could be better. For instance, the concert toms only have playback for three toms, but many pieces call for four toms. Under mixed percussion, some instruments don't play back at all (ride cymbal), and I think you could do with adding more instruments to mixed percussion such as a china cymbal or other accessories. Adding a way to notate the direction wind chimes (mark tree) are played would also be a great addition. Overall, these are minor issues. I've had no major problems with Muse Percussion at all. Thank you
*Note: This review was originally written in Korean and translated into English using ChatGPT.* I'll clearly explain why the hi-hat auto-close feature is problematic rather than helpful: **1. A dedicated hi-hat pedal symbol already exists.** Music notation already provides a dedicated hi-hat pedal symbol (marked as an 'x') near the bass drum notes. If a composer wants the hi-hat to close, they can simply use this existing symbol explicitly. **2. It's impossible for an algorithm to accurately predict all musical contexts where the hi-hat should close.** Music varies greatly, and I believe this diversity should ideally be clearly expressed through notation. After the recent update, I noticed the hi-hat now automatically closes whenever there’s a rest or another note following an open hi-hat symbol. Moreover, there seems to be a bug: - In the previous version of Muse Percussion, consecutive open hi-hat symbols naturally sustained even if the following open hi-hat had a softer dynamic marking than the previous one (for example, 'f' followed by 'mf'). This behavior accurately reflected realistic playing. - In the updated version, however, the hi-hat sound unexpectedly cuts off at the second note with the softer dynamic marking. Here's a simple, practical example to demonstrate the issue: - **Open Hi-Hat/Kick Drum:** Beats 1, 2.5, and 4 - **Snare:** Beats 1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.25, 3, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 4.5, and 4.75 In this scenario, the automatic hi-hat closing interrupts the open hi-hat sound whenever the snare hits occur. Another common scenario affected by this issue is playing paradiddles, with the right hand on an open hi-hat and the left hand on the snare drum. If composers intentionally want to cut off the hi-hat sound, they can explicitly include the pedal symbol. However, due to the current auto-close behavior, the hi-hat sound prematurely cuts off even without the pedal symbol, significantly disrupting intended musical expressions. Muse Hub automatically updates by default, meaning the software updated without my consent, and I can no longer revert to the previous sound behavior. This severely affected my workflow, ruining carefully prepared scores that required extensive effort. I sincerely ask the developers to reconsider this feature.
