Muse Strings Reviews
It sounds very nice I just wish I could use solo contrabass
UPDATE Sep 28, 2026: I have reason to believe this omission was not accidental. For a proper upright bass, the Sidecar Jazz Trio pack would have to be purchased for $30... Take that as you will. (from Oct 2025) Once upon a time, we had solo contrabass. This was a lovely option to use for jazz works for a traditional 20th Century sound. For several updates, it has seemed to vanish. Please try to work on restoring a minor yet impactful piece of this pack, thank you.
I've used MuseSounds for years since their release with MuseScore 4, and still think that they're best sounds in free; however, there're some problems trouble me when I work with them. I found that there's sth wrong with playback of tremolo signs through stem which plays as trem. between notes, when you add them on a chord. Same with Muse Woodwinds and Brass. I have no idea why they do not link to the technique of tremolo (as 'tremolo' in the palette 'Text'). Also, I don't know how to add multiple techniques on single stave (e.g. sul tasto & tremolo, which ONLY one can be performed of the two). Btw, I can't make half-legato by adding slur and staccato, because only staccato sounds. Hope they can be resolved in an upcoming update. Thanks.
I think the library needs to add a solo double bass to make it complete. After all, Saint-Saëns used it in 'The Carnival of the Animals', and I need it too.
I’ve been a big fan of Muse Strings since their release with MuseScore 4, and still consider them one of the best-sounding string sections on any platform; however, updates 0.4.26 and 0.4.27 have SIGNIFICANTLY changed solo-string dynamics, especially pizz.. Cello pizz. at mf is now too loud, while mp is barely audible, forcing me to use mf even when it drowns out other instruments. Same with Viola Solo and Violin Solo 2. This has created hours of manual editing across dozens of scores. Please prioritize fixing this and restore the previous dynamics, or rebalance them so mp is clearly audible without mf drowning out everything. This issue is seriously disrupting my workflow, and I hope it can be resolved in an upcoming update. Thank you!
It is good, but as the title says - where is the solo double bass? I think a soundfont for solo double bass would be a very important addition, seeing as there are even soundfonts for stuff like cimbasso or even contrabass flute for example...
I using this library from beginning of Musescore ver. 4 and it's wonderfull. No more reason to re-sound midi parts in DAW manually, it's already good enough for production. Some issues is need for sound editing on production, but that's much more easy, than re-sound manually from scratch. God bless you, developers, thank you. This library is the best, I have bought berlin libraries and it have much more problems. At this moment i see two fixes: 1) Cellos and Basses have strong high freq noise above 3kHz. I succefully cuts it in Izotope RX on production. But i need to do that. This noise become critical on mastering when increasing highs. In playback it's not really visible. 2) All the samples is a stereo and it's pan to right like 10%
An improvement over the basic MS soundfont, but beware of timing issues. One of my notes was shifted a whole quaver forward in both playback and render.
It would be good to add a solo double bass version. Also, the *staccato* sound of the violas could be improved. There is an issue with the cello: when the "Classic Phrasing" option is applied to the score, it simply stops playing certain notes. And the staccatos in the violins sound like legato; I have to use staccatissimo to get a staccato sound.
I think the sounds are beautiful, just that the articulations are a bit wonky. When you have a phrase that is slurred and ends with a staccato, the last note with the staccato is a lot louder than the rest of the phrase making it quite out of place. I don't know what to think of the sliding in slower passages for Violin 1s, but I find myself using the Violin 2s sound for first violins as they do not gliss up and down across notes.
I’ve been using Muse Strings for quite a while now, and don’t have many major issues regarding the sound produced. That said, there are a few areas for improvement: - Portamentos (especially Violin II) sometimes sound at random - The cellos sound “dirty” for whatever reason. There’s some high-pitched background sound that the other instruments don’t have. I have to apply 2 “Reduce Sizzle” effects through SimpleEQ to remove most of it, but that leaves the cellos sounding a bit dull. - Pizzicatos for all strings also sound “dirty”. There’s a lot of noticeable background noise (random clicks, hissing, sometimes what sounds like something being dropped) to them.
It's beautiful, this is very nice for ostinattos
The other strings sound great, but please fix the viola staccatos, they are way too quiet compared to every other aspect of the instrument
the sound is smooth and it's even free. I'm completely shocked
this might be the best pack ive ever gotten, its violin is smooth, it sounds heavenly, i love it.
- Add Solo Double Bass soundfont; ranged between C0–G4 (so it's also usable for the Octobass), and make it come with 2 different pizzicato styles: Classical (orchestral) Pizzicato, and Jazz Pizzicato. - Add Full Strings (whole string section) soundfont with total range of A0–G7 (uses "Strings" instrument in the studio). - Add Celli-Basses octave soundfont (a soundfont that sounds as cello and bass in octave simultaneously; named as Celli-Basses 8ve. in files), ranged the same as cello, in order to make orchestral scores that unify cello and bass stave able to sound in octave simultaneously.
It is not downloading. After waiting 50 minutes. Getting error message saying it can’t download
Partner Response: Hi there, we’re sorry to hear you’re experiencing an issue. Please make sure your MuseHub app is updated to the latest version. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, please submit a support ticket with more details. Our team will be happy to help: https://support.musehub.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new
great but : - some articulations aren’t supported (marcatos, accents) ; - glissandos really bad (to the point that i’ll use museBasic for that) ; - you can hear the noise of the recording on certain pizzicatos. Apart from that, it’s great for a free product
This recent update fixes most of my problems but their are still some issues with the Viola Solo sound font. -This is a new one but whenever the Viola holds a long note, it sounds as if there is a staccato note right before the held note. -The Viola Pizzicato is still too loud and needs to be toned down. -The Viola glissando doesn't connect at the end of the note. -Viola does not do fortepiano properly.
This strings is super lushy. Hopefully the phrasing, the staccato, and the notes are being executed just like noteperformer. But I like the legato-portamento sounds like live studio recording but I believe that these instruments samples are live recorded. Well Done!
Its is extremely necessary that you add tremolo and staccato with harmonics, non vibrato, sul tasto, sul ponticello sounds. This would make the perfect library.
Without the 'classical phrasing' modifier there is a constant and annoyingly excessive portamento; with it, half of the notes will not play on the viola and cello. You can hear in the violins what the intended effect is (which is beautiful with classical phrasing enabled), but this issue has evidently been known to the developers for several years and it has not been resolved. At least none of us paid to discover this... Edit: In the meantime, normal phrasing with the non-legato setting somewhat reduces the portamento, but the viola and cello are still unusable for most styles/genres in that regard.
When the classical phrasing is on, some of the notes don’t play and it sounds dotted or like there’s a short rest in between the notes that play.
I like the strings section fine when Musescore actually lets me use them, but it keeps glitching out and not letting me use them
