“Spire Explained®” provides a comprehensive guide to Reveal Audio's Spire virtual synthesizer. In this course, Larry Holcombe walks through the synth's interface, sound engines, modulation tools, effects, and sound design workflow, concluding with practical patch creation from scratch. The training begins with a tour of the interface before exploring the oscillator section, including FM, AMSync, SawPWWM, Hard FM, and Vowel modes, along with the Ctrl A and Ctrl B controls. You'll also learn how Spire's unison and mix settings can be used to create a variety of sounds and effects. Next, the course covers the dual filters, including routing options, filter types and modes, key tracking, cutoff, and resonance. You'll then explore the envelope controls, including slope, time, level, and velocity sensitivity for shaping both volume and timbre. Additional lessons examine LFOs, the Stepper modulation system, the modulation matrix, drift, portamento, pitch bend, built-in effects, the output section, polyphonic modes, and the arpeggiator. The course concludes with designing three sounds from scratch: a sequenced bass, an ominous pad, and a chord patch.
