ARGATE is a noise gate and downward expander designed to reduce unwanted sound without always cutting it completely. RANGE determines how strongly signals below the threshold are attenuated, letting you move from gentle bleed reduction to hard gating while preserving natural room sound when needed. Separate opening and closing thresholds use hysteresis to prevent chatter when a signal fluctuates around the threshold, while HOLD bridges short dips within sustained sounds. A constant 10 ms lookahead allows the detector to react before transients arrive, helping preserve the initial attack without changing reported latency as settings are adjusted. The sidechain detector can focus on frequencies below 180 Hz, between 180 Hz and 2.2 kHz, or above 2.2 kHz, helping prevent unrelated elements from triggering the gate. LISTEN lets you monitor the detector signal directly for easier setup.

What ARGATE offers

Gate & Downward Expander: Adjust RANGE from gentle attenuation to hard 80 dB gating
Hysteresis Control: Use separate opening and closing thresholds to reduce unwanted gate chatter
Hold Control: Keep the gate open across short level dips for smoother, more natural decay
10 ms Lookahead: Detect incoming transients early to preserve their initial attack
Frequency-Focused Sidechain: Trigger from low, mid, or high frequency bands to better isolate the intended source
Detector Monitoring: Use LISTEN to hear exactly what the sidechain detector is responding to
