Muse Percussion Reviews
Some instruments like the chimes became really loud since the new update came out, which makes some of my scores sound weird or bad. Also, the splash cymbal on the regular drum kit just doesn't make sound.
I already contented with the sound of the snare but the Bass Drum and Cymbals are way to soft even in loud dynamics. The suspended cymbal should have a damp when staccato articulation is being placed
Positives: Subfolders, trap kit bass drum not ridiculously loud anymore, gong and tam-tam rolls are smoother, dampen on release, secco and let ring sound flags for sleigh bells, bass drum, mark tree, bell tree (some instruments dampen on release, secco and let ring needs to be separated by modify sound and playing techniques), glockenspiel, crotales, timpani (dampen on release doesn't work as intended on rolls). Negatives: Suspended cymbal release holds out and has this sizzle sound and it's annoying, most of the instruments are way louder or softer than before for example the rimshots at forte on the timbales causes the audio to peak out
I hate to be someone that just complains, but the percussion sounds very weird after the update, and in some cases, worse, especially the mallets (glockenspiel, marimba, etc). Suspended cymbal also sounds off too. I feel there was no need to change the sound of most of these instruments.
The tubular bells sound so strange in the new update. Other sounds are fine but just the chimes.
But the snare drum with snares off settings while playing consecutive fast notes after each other there’s a glitch in sounds; it doesn’t play the sample as it should but there’s like an annoying click.
Everything sounds great, just the fact that there are only 3 concert toms and the snare drum sound is weirdly reverberated and barely can be heard under other percussion/wind instruments, other than that everything else sounds great (ESPECIALLY the Timpani)
Definitely a step up from MS Basic.
for something free it's pretty good, but I do have a few cymbal related problems. 1. there's no dedicated splash cymbal sound, you can only use it from things like drumset 2. china cymbal doesn't have a roll 3. suspended cymbal roll kinda sucks other than that I don't really have any issues. overall, most things sound good.
Mostly WAY better than the default sounds. There is a few however that are not the best. The glockenspiel is far to soft and dynamics don't work well. The timpani's sound really mushes together. The chimes don't play anything above the high G for some reason. Many other instrument are missing like finger cymbals and ocean drum.
Good, most things sound good expect for a lot of the keyboards, the glockenspiel sounds like a bell kit, and a glockenspiel is different from a bell kit. The marimba sounds like it was played with hard mallets, i wish there was a way to change whether the marimba was played with hard mallets or soft mallets because a lot of things just don't sound good with hard mallets. (EDIT: JUST FOUND OUT YOU CAN CHANGE IT, THANK YOU MUSESCORE)
Using mixed percussion was great until this last update. Mixed percussion is a lot quieter than it should be if the dynamic is below F, but my biggest issue is that buzz rolls no longer work on snare for mixed percussion.
Percussion. Hand Cymbals too quiet and unnatural. Snare if fine, suspension cymbals are awesome, bass drum louder than others.
The drums sound great
Glockenspiel range limited to C5 while orchestral glockenspiels often feature 3 octaves of range up to F5. Doesn't sound that good either.
The trap kit in particular isn't well balanced — the bass drum is way too loud compared to everything else.
There's a problem with Mixed Percussion whereby it is effectively inaudible below mf. The Mixed Percussion instrument sounds are significantly quieter than those of equivalent individual instruments at the same dynamic markings. I've tried bumping the volume up in the mixer, but it doesn't help. I've contacted support. Hopefully they can fix this, because the sounds are great, but currently unusable on a Mixed Percussion stave for me due to the glitch.
I just wrote an entire review and accidently deleted it, so I’ll make this brief. The sounds are amazing, I recommend this product. But, I think the new notehead functionality in the newest update may have accidently cause an issue with playback. Some specific notes just cut out and don’t make any noise. These are notes I copy pasted from another percussion track. Let’s say I have a snare and taiko part in a song. I’ll copy paste a rhythm from the taiko onto the snaare part, and that won’t make noise because the soundfont for snare drum ONLY has snare sounds. It will see the taiko notes and just not play them because it doesn’t have taiko sounds even though it uses perfectly normal noteheads. I went to the MS Basic soundfont, and the notes that don’t work on Muse Persussion play the sound it was copy pasted from. So, it would play the taiko sound on the snare drum part on MS Basic, and on Muse Percussion, it wouldn’t even make a sound. And copying is a lot more efficient than inputing everything manually. This wasn’t an issue before the update. I reaaly hope that this can be fixed. Thank you if you took the time to read this.
Lately, for some reason, my suspended cymbal crescendo rolls have been sounding rough, with there being a sudden jump in emphasis and volume around the end; this wasn't an issue before recently, with the rolls sounding smooth as intended; Idk what happened
These are miles better compared to the vanilla soundfonts, and its criminal that they’re free. The vibraphones & marimas sound amazing, and mix incredibly well with any instrument. 9/10, would recommend.
This is by FAR has the best percussion samples for MIDI playback on the market. It's almost criminal that this is a free product. This paired with Muse Drumline is easily the best percussion sampling I have ever heard from a computer. Nearly sounds live.
I love how many different instruments there are in this pack! And they mostly sound realistic. This has the best suspended cymbal roll with mallets in anything I've tried.
I like thes part ! TKS ~
the kit is very out of sync, especially when you start getting louder in dynamics. also, all of the individual drums are different dynamics from eachother. like why am i trying so hard to hear the snare and all i can hear is bass and high hat?
