Muse Brass Reviews
I know it's a free pack but the 1.0.1 update had perfectly functioning brass, which got completely ruined by the dynamic balancing in 1.0.2. While yes, the horns and trumpets seem to be back to normal, the trombones are somehow even quieter than before unless you crank up the dynamics to absurd levels. I'm so close to finishing my large orchestral piece and now I have to go back and edit a ton of dynamic changes AGAIN for absolutely no reason. Fix this... or don't, because then I'll have to go and edit everything for a third time.
Partner Response: Hi! We’re sorry to hear you’ve been unhappy with the latest Muse Brass update. We’ve made the previous version available again through MuseHub. To install it, simply download the new Muse Brass 1.0.3 update from your MuseHub library. This release contains the version of Muse Brass that was available prior to the recent update. Thanks!
People like to be harsh with the free MuseSounds, but I think it's more of a management/development problem than the sounds themselves. Yeah, they're not mind-blowing sounding addons, but the fact is they're free and obviously better than General Midi sounds. Some free MuseSounds are definitely better than others; some instruments sound good and some are disappointing, but if you're looking for a more 'realistic' sounding playback, free MuseSounds are 'fine'. For the most part they improve, but in some cases you'll be finicking and working around the limitations to get it to sound right.
After the last update where the way the new sounds completely broke the balance between the whole orchestra was disappointing, i’m glad you updated back. But there was some things to keep, like a bit of improvement in trombones but sadly the balance ruined it, especially for trumpets who were absurdly loud, but are none to be heard in old sounds. This brings us to a problem, the fact you can’t mix volumes by time: you can do a general mix but if in some moment an instrument need to be louder than mp but keeping the mp sound you have to turn it higher on the mixer, making it louder for the rest of the time. I think you need to add the ability of changing volume of instruments at some exact moments as you are able to do in logic pro
It seems that after the latest update, the entire brass section in my scores, to put it mildly, has gone crazy — a straightforward, dense, and flat sound without any adherence to a broad dynamic palette and articulations.

Tysm for reverting the update! I'm sorry for sounding too technical (perhaps harsh?) in my late comment. I tend to not express myself well on text, especially when I'm upset. I love you guys' work and dedication. Lowkey inspires me The current version is awesome for a free plugin. Works as expected!
Updating my review. Thank you for listening to user feedback, and reverting to the previous version of Muse Brass. My orchestral brass sections now sound the way they should.
make it possible for every musesounds library to backup and download older versions of it, because every time update comes up. the sound of the instruments changes drastically—and often for the worse. your so-called "enhancements" complicate everything, and what was created on older versions becomes useless on the new ones and also 1.0.5. review - when bass trombone play staccato sound starts lagging terribly for the whole score. french horns sound very unnatural when playing fast notes without any slurs or articulation marks, while accented notes produce an unrealistic and pointless reverb. the accented or staccato eighth notes on the trumpet lose their reverb entirely and sound as if they were recorded in an extremely dead studio.
Thank you for reverting to the previous sounds. I can use staccatos and short notes again!
The last update disbalanced some instruments and swapped some articulation but thanks to a quick-moving team, the last update has been rolled back. Now that these sounds are fixed, they are a great start for beginning composers who can't afford professional sounds. There are a few issues, but nearly all can be fixed in the mixer. Thanks for fixing the update! :)
While the last update had Major Problems it did fix the klicking noise as well as dynamic Problems of the Tuba! It would be too bad to miss out on the work done on the Tuba, because the other Instruments suffered last update
1.0.5 Update: Horns can't seem to play faster rhythms properly, this was not an issue before. Also, I don't know if it's just me, but seems as though everything sounds completely dry now at certain points (all instruments, not just brass), like the reverb is there sometimes, and then other times, it disappears completely. I think at this point we should be given the option to revert to an update if we choose, because it seems every time there is an update, there is an issue that negatively affects playback (often majorly).
It's great and it's free. =) Only real problem is a loud clicks at the ends of tuba samples. Not a big problem, because it cuts easily in isotope RX, but anyway
This isn't the best package you have. But it's okay. Just a little advice, please let us choose between the different mutes for Trumpets and Trombones (harmon, cup, plunger)
Honestly, this is a pretty good set of sounds from Muse, and it is FREE! Doesn't really need any changes (maybe I am just scared they'll ruin it again though). But yeah, if you haven't downloaded this and you write for any brass instruments in MuseScore, just get it, it sounds pretty good.
I honestly don't know why i felt the need to be so angry with the quality mistake of the last update. The musescore team has always taken their time to resolve any issues and offer an amazing sound library for being free. Thank you.
By the way, I just noticed that there is a nice harmon mute trumpet patch in the MuseSounds Brass collection. Has it been there for long? Nice! I'm still not able to activate a trombone slide/portamento sound if one exists. As a customer who uses the free patches in MuseScore, I feel it would be bad form for me to make any demands, but I did, in case it makes a difference, want to register my interest and inquire whether an update to the trombone patch which would include this quintessentially trombone-y effect is planned for the near future. Thanks!!
Even if isn't perfect, it's sounds well.
woodwinds sound awfull please make something
Partner Response: Thanks for the feedback, and we're sorry to hear you're unhappy with the sounds! Just to clarify, Muse Brass includes brass instruments; woodwinds would be a separate library. You can find those here: https://www.musehub.com/muse-sounds/muse-woodwinds
Although it's not all that fair to compare this directly to muse-woodwinds, the variety here is not nearly as diverse. The most glaring flaw is the lack of a euphonium, and a cornet/flugelhorn wouldn't hurt. Also, the trombone is inaudible in a large ensemble setting when below mezzo forte; shocking for the instrument, and forte jumps up way too high. The lack of glissandos is also disappointing, as it is usually the instrument's highlight. Finally, the tuba has a very annoying feedback "click" sound on certain notes that was clearly a flaw in recording. It is painfully obvious, loud or soft.
especially for trombones, mezzoforte or softer is basically inaudible and forte is blasting loud. it'd be an extremely nice free brass sample library with this fixed but as-is it's basically unusable.
These are amazing for being free, but I would love two have some Trombone glissandos and Horn rips.
-Trombone and Trumpet Dynamics (Mezzo forte and under) -Trombone Gliss -Adding Euphonium
Of course my main gripe is with the Trombone’s dynamics, Mezzo Forte and below are literally unhearable, this is a major problem especially for Big Band since there Mezzo Forte is more like what forte is in this Musesound, the other thing is that since I write for Big Bands, I would also like fugelhorn, harmon mute trumpet, cup mute trumpet, plunger mute trumpet, piccolo trumpet, plunger mute trombone, as well as a higher range for trumpet (I don’t expect you to increase the range much but if you add a note or two to the trumpet’s higher end every few updates that would be nice)
A huge (free) step up in my playback, but the trombone is nearly inaudible in mezzo forte and below, whereas forte is blaringly loud. I imagine it’s a simple fix and it’d make the pack a lot more usable.
