Standard saturators have a problem on drums that doesn't get talked about enough: they treat the whole signal as a flat block. The transient spike hits the clipping threshold first, so the attack gets squashed before anything else. Then the tail gets muddy and bloated. You wanted warmth, you got a soft, blurry mess. Great work everyone. TR-SATURN splits the incoming signal into Transients and Sustain using an ultra-fast control detector. Drive and harmonic shaping only touch the initial hit. The body and tail don't get saturated, they stay exactly as dynamic and clean as they came in. So you get analog harmonic richness on the attack without losing the snap, without squashing the groove, without bloating the low end. The result on a kick or snare is pretty immediate. Things feel thicker and more present in a mix without losing actual weight. It's a subtle plugin, you might not notice it until you bypass it, which is roughly the highest compliment I can give a drum processor. Controls are simple: Drive for saturation amount, React for detector speed, Character mode for switching between clean and colored harmonic flavors, and a Loud Match toggle so you can bypass and re-engage without the volume jump tricking your ears into thinking it sounds better (it does that). Monitor toggles let you hear the transient and sustain channels separately. Useful for understanding exactly what's being saturated and what's being left alone, or just for being nosy. Throw it on a drum bus, individual hits, or any transient-heavy material.
